Reception - Chestnut Class
In 2026–2027, Chestnut Class is a Reception class, welcoming children who are all beginning their first year of school together. This is a change from the previous year, when the class was a mixed Reception and Year 1 provision. Having a dedicated Reception class will allow us to focus fully on the unique needs, interests and developmental stages of our youngest learners, providing a carefully planned curriculum and environment that supports children as they settle into school life, build confidence and develop the foundations for their future learning.

Reception/Year One - Chestnut Class 2025-2026
In 2025-2026, Chestnut Class was a mixed class of Reception and Year 1 children. Learning was carefully planned to meet the needs of all pupils across both year groups.
Staff followed the principles and commitments of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), which set out the standards for learning, development and care for all children in the Foundation Stage.
Throughout the year, children’s learning, progress and achievements were recorded through the EYFS Profile. At the end of Reception, there was a statutory assessment which provided the school and parents with a detailed summary of each child’s attainment against the Early Learning Goals.
The Year 1 children in the Year 1/2 class (Elm) learnt alongside the Year R/1 children (Chestnut). They had some joint learning opportunities, including maths, where they worked together and followed the Year 1 curriculum, helping to ensure consistency, continuity and a smooth transition into Key Stage 1 learning.
